Wet n Wild Hello Kitty Highlighter Review & Swatches

I’m pretty proud of myself because as much as I wanted to purchase the Wet n Wild Hello Kitty 50th Anniversary PR Tin Box I decided to just purchase the items I wanted. One of those items was the Wet n Wild Hello Kitty Cheerlead Highlighter. It was pink, it was shimmery, I felt like I had to have it even though I’m not much of a highlighter fan girl!

Let’s take a look and see what I thought of this one!

Like many drugstore brands Wet n Wild sure has gone up with their prices! Wet n Wild Hello Kitty Highlighter is available in two shades and the one I got was called Cheerleader and it’s 0.21 oz in size for $8.99. At the risk of sound like my father with his “I remember when…” stories but I remember when Wet n Wild Highlighters were like $3.99-$4.99. Things sure have done up dramatically. But yup, this is $8.99 and I liked it but I probably wouldn’t buy it full-price if I were you! Wait for a sale especially considering Wet n Wild’s track record with collaborations like this as typically they go on sale fast!

The highlighter comes lightweight pink plastic compact with a clear lid. It has a white sketch of Hello Kitty on the front featuring her name and logo. It’s cute packaging but pretty lightweight and easy to break if you drop it.

According to Wet n Wild this gives a Multi-Dimensional Glow with a formula is infused with iridescent pearls that reflect the light. They throw around words like luminous finish but it’s pretty shimmery in my opinion and nothing luminous or glowy about. You can get it to look luminous with setting spray but that initial application is a big old blast of shimmer! There is A LOT of fine silver sparkle in this shade. The color is a bright rosy pink with tons of fine silver shimmer. In my photo, I did a fine mist of L’Oreal Infallible 3-Second Setting Mist Spray (I actually like this stuff by why does it have so much fragrance?!) and it really refined the finish of the shimmer and gave the highlighter a nice glow. Without it I looked a lot more shimmery! The nice thing about this formula is it worked great as an eyeshadow as well! I have it on my eyes below! It’s not the silkiest formula I ever used but it’s thin and does apply easily on my eyes. I’ll go ahead and throw it out there and say I’d have loved to have seen them do a golden peach or coral in this highlighter! I think that would have been so pretty if they did!

As I said above the formula is thin not powdery at all! It’s not the silkiest formula in the world but it applies fairly smooth on my skin even though I feel it is a bit dry. I would say this will look good on skin that isn’t textured. I have smooth, pore-free skin and it looked great but I can see it possibly adhering to drier areas if you don’t prime well or if you have more textured skin it might look a little caky. The powder isn’t as smooth and as silky as it needs to be to look good if you have issues like the ones I mentioned. The wear time is surprisingly good at around 7 hours without fading and it retains all that shimmer as well. I actually used it as a blush versus a highlighter so in my pictures you’re seeing me wearing it all over my cheeks and as you can see it’s quite pigmented!

I wouldn’t say Wet n Wild Hello Kitty Highlighter is the brand’s best highlighter formula but the color is fun and it works great as a blush, highlighter, and even an eyeshadow. I don’t think it’s a race out to buy item but I’d suggest a pick up if you see it on sale!

Did you grab this one? Or any of the Wet n Wild x Hello Kitty Collection? Do share!

Where to buy

Ulta Walmart

Wet n Wild Hello Kitty Highlighter is a new, limited-edition highlighter available in two shade selections for $8.99 each that are 0.21 oz each. This arrives in a lightweight plastic compact with a sketch of Hello Kitty decorating the lid. I got the shade Cheerleader which is a bright, rosy pink with tons of fine silver shimmer. The formula is thin, light, a little dry but not powdery. It may not work great on textured skin and does have a super shimmery finish that can be refined with setting powder to look more luminous. The color wears for a solid several hours without fading and is nicely pigmented that it worked not only as a highlighter but as a blush and eyeshadow as well!

Pros

  • Pretty shade.
  • Works great as a highlighter, blush, or even an eyeshadow.
  • Long-wearing!

Cons

  • Drier, thinner consistency.
  • May be an issue for textured skin due to the formula and amount of shimmer.
  • Bit expensive for Wet n Wild.

Who

Wet n Wild Hello Kitty Highlighter will be appealing to both makeup lovers and Hello Kitty fans as it’s a cutely packaged highlighter that’s quite pretty on cheeks and eyes!
